In just a couple of weeks, we’ll wrap up another school year. It seems like the last part of the school year always flies by! Between spring holidays, family birthdays, dance recitals, and end of the year school activities, there is so much going on!
While life is really a whirlwind lately, I do try to slow things down and document special days. One of my favorite ways to do this is with a last day of school picture. I think most of us snap a few (or a few dozen!) pictures on the first day of school, but in the rush to get out the door on the last day, the photo opportunity is often overlooked.
It’s so fun to compare the first day of school picture with the last day! I’m always blown away at how much my daughter grows over the year. Since I see her every day, it’s not always noticeable how much taller she’s grown or how much older she looks. But man, when I compared her first day of kindergarten pic last year with her last day one, it looks like she went from a baby to a big girl! The transformation is incredible!
There’s no doubt about it, pictures are way more fun when there are props! So I created this last day of school sign for my daughter to pose with. She loves all things rainbow right now, so I wanted to incorporate that into the design.
To make things easy, I just printed it on a letter-sized piece of cardstock. You can either have your child simply hold onto the paper for the picture, or it would be really cute to tape a ruler or pencil to the back of the paper to make a little handle for them to hold.
I love how this design turned out and wanted to share it with all of you. I created signs for Pre-K through 5th grade and put them in my free printables library. You can download your free copy by signing up here.
I wanted to take my last day of school documentation one step further by creating a last day of school interview sheet for my daughter to fill out. I think this is a fun way to capture her perspective on the past year. Years from now, it’ll be so fun to pull this out and see what her interests were when she was young. I plan to do one each year so we can have a little snapshot of each school year.
The interview sheet asks her to list her favorites, including her favorite teacher, subject, books, and lunch. I also wanted to ask her about her best friends, fun things she did this year, and what makes her happy. I hope this will be a creative keepsake for her.
I have also included this design and one for each grade, Pre-K through 5th grade in my printables library. You can access this design and many other free printables by signing up here.
I hope you will use these designs to capture these special moments in your children’s lives. It really goes by quickly, so take some time to slow down and soak it up!
Our neighborhood has an ice cream social on the last day of school. It’s a great way to celebrate the end of the school year and kick off the summer. I’m so thankful we live in a great community and my girls have lots of other kiddos their age to play with in their neighborhood.
Do you do anything special on the last day of school? I would love to hear about your fun traditions. Leave me a comment below!
The interview sheet is a great idea! I could see that as part of a school memories scrapbook! Nice!
Thanks, Theresa! Yes, this would be perfect for a school scrapbook. Great idea!
